Winter
She’s here, crept in ever so softly that we didn’t even feel her presence until a couple of days ago and even now the sun shines bright in the afternoon.
It set me thinking – what does winter mean to you?
To me it means – grey misty mornings when we get up before the sun does, and watch it give way to the moon and the stars way too early.
It means - lots of peanuts, boiled, fried or roasted
It means warm socks and popcorn
It means – my favorite gajak (a sweet made of jaggery and sesame seed)
It means – snuggling in an enormous razai (quilt)
It means tucking in two shivery dogs to bed.
It means – airing musty smelling woolies.
It means lunch on the sun warmed lawn.
It means – homemade soup.
It means – lots of baking for Christmas.
It means - the stereo will be singing its head off Christmassy music.
It means – a postman weighed down by a load of cards and letters.
It means – rehearsals for Christmas plays.
It means a late night party of chocolate and marshmallows with friends
It means - barbeque on the roof (ours is flat)
It means – pictures of snow on the calendar.
It means – lots of coffee and wassail to drink.
It means – freezing motor bike rides.
It means – off with fans and coolers and on with the heaters.
It means – steaming hot water baths.
It means – staying awake to greet the New Year.
It means – clothes that take long to dry.
It means – that my sister's birthday is drawing nigh (not that she lets us forget)
It means – early morning foggy breath.
It means – snoozing in the sun.
It means – being swathed in warm cozy shawls.
It means – apples and oranges and chickoos and custard apples and dates and sweet limes, all winter fruit here.

Just a musing that came over me! Thought I’d share it with you
